How does Gel Electrophoresis work?

Explain how this works please and also if you want to see how far the DNA fragments move, do you dye before you start the Electrophoresis? What is blotting with a Nitrocellulose sheet used for, is it done before or after and why do you do it? What's Ethilium Bromide used for in this whole process?
