Is it possible that a lighting bolt will miss you with nothing around you?

Your supposition is very plausible because there have been instances of lightning strike on people and they are still alive ,so a strike at 5meters is possible but the sound shock wave would possibly have caused some memory distortion or hearing disturbance at such close proximity.
